Hospital Door RFQ Checklist

First separate the building entrance from internal hospital doors

“Hospital entrance doors” can mean the public entrance to the building, an entrance to a clinical department, or a patient-room doorway. These are different procurement briefs. Mark the location on a plan before asking suppliers to propose a model.

For an external entrance, identify weather exposure, the entrance system and the required access arrangement. For an internal opening, identify the room function, movement route, privacy and cleaning conditions. Build the RFQ around door marks and room zones

Use one line per opening or clearly defined group of identical openings. Keep the door mark from the architect’s schedule, even when several leaves share a finish. Distinguish patient rooms, circulation routes, utility rooms, laboratories and controlled areas. Flag specialist requirements separately rather than applying one label to the entire order.

For each line, record quantity, drawing revision and any unresolved decision. A useful enquiry can contain open questions, provided they are visible. State what the door, frame and hardware quotation includes

Ask each supplier to mark items as included, excluded or pending confirmation against the same opening IDs. “Complete door set” is too vague when different parties provide the frame, glass, access control or installation.

• Leaf and finish: proposed construction, approved surface reference, edge treatment, cutouts and protection plates.
• Frame: profile drawing, finished wall thickness, fixing arrangement, architrave if required, seals and any threshold detail.
• Vision panel: cutout and viewing dimensions, glazing specification, retaining kit, privacy treatment and who supplies the glass.
• Mechanical hardware: named hinge or pivot, latch or lock function, handle arrangement, closer, stop and hardware preparation.
• Electrical scope: operator, activation device, sensors, access-control interface, power supply, wiring and commissioning responsibilities where applicable.
• Delivery and site work: packing, opening labels, installation, adjustment, spare parts and documentation. Confirm each item in writing rather than treating it as standard.

Record the hardware set reference on the door elevation. If hardware is supplied locally, send its model drawings before approving machining. For mixed supply packages, identify who checks compatibility and who resolves an interface problem on site.

Check clear passage and the approach route, not only leaf width

For bed, trolley or equipment routes, attach the floor plan and identify the equipment envelope, attendants and turning movement. Ask the project designer to confirm the required clear passage and approach space. A nominal leaf size should not be used as a substitute for the usable opening after the frame, open leaves, seals and hardware are coordinated.

NHS England’s HBN 00-04 circulation guidance addresses doors together with corridor and bed movement conditions. It is a design reference for healthcare projects in England, not a universal door dimension or a VISFURN product certification. The appointed designer must determine the requirements applicable to the destination and project.

Specify hardware by operation and user needs

Describe how staff, patients and visitors should use each opening. State whether it needs latching, privacy, staff-only access, assisted opening or an automatic operator. Show the intended push/pull direction and handing on the drawing. Record conflicts between a closer, a vision panel and the selected handle before releasing hardware preparation.

For automatic openings, request an agreed control and interface schedule from the responsible specialists. Identify who supplies and tests activation, access control and any building-system connection. An automatic or hermetic product name alone does not establish the complete operating sequence or site performance.

Define cleaning, glazing and impact details

Provide the cleaning products and method used by the facility so the proposed finish, edges, frame and hardware can be reviewed for compatibility. State where carts may contact the opening and show the size and position of requested protection. Do not infer chemical resistance or infection-control performance from a smooth surface or a marketing label.

For glazed openings, coordinate the viewing area, privacy, glass and retaining detail with the door elevation. Use the vision-panel specification checklist for the drawing inputs. Where moisture-resistant materials are being considered, review the WPC door options against the actual use conditions rather than treating material choice as healthcare approval.

Keep specialist performance requirements tied to evidence

Identify any required fire, acoustic, pressure, shielding or other specialist performance in the project documents. Ask which evidence applies to the proposed leaf, frame, glazing, seals and hardware configuration, and have the responsible project professional review it. A report for a different assembly does not automatically establish suitability for the selected opening.

Separate requested requirements from confirmed supplier scope in the quotation. If a document or configuration has not been reviewed, keep it pending. This checklist does not establish that every listed VISFURN product meets every specialist requirement, and it does not replace project design or local approval.

Send a compact, usable enquiry package

1. Project type, country, destination port and required project or delivery milestone.
2. Door marks, room zones, quantities and the latest dated schedule.
3. Plans and elevations showing the dimension basis, finished wall thickness, handing and required clear passage.
4. Finish reference, cleaning conditions, vision-panel detail and protection requirements.
5. Hardware set references, automation or access interfaces and the proposed supply-responsibility list.
6. Applicable project standards, requested evidence and a separate list of details still awaiting approval.
